Event Summary
From Sea to Shining Sea!
What makes a nation truly special? Is it the rolling waves along the coast, the amber fields of the heartland, or the purple mountain majesties rising beneath spacious skies? In celebration of the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, this year’s Quilt Block Challenge invites you to capture the spirit of “Sea to Shining Sea” in fabric form. From historic landmarks and hometown main streets to sweeping landscapes that define our country’s beauty and resilience, we challenge you to stitch your interpretation of America’s story — honoring 250 years of history, heritage, and hope — at the 2026 Garden of Quilts.
Participation is simple! Register using the form below, and within a few days, we will send you a curated set of six Riley Blake Designs fat quarters. These colors will serve as the foundation of your design. From there, you can enhance your quilt block with additional fabrics, appliqué, embroidery, beadwork, and other embellishments—just make sure your finished 20” x 20” block follows the challenge guidelines and theme. Once your block is complete, email us a picture, and we will provide a release form and further instructions for submitting your quilt. From sea to shining sea, what part of America’s story inspires you most? Show us through your stitches!
Registration: $60 (Includes fat-quarter fabric pack and return shipping.)

Rules:
Quilt blocks must:
- Relate to the theme: “Sea to Shining Sea”
- Measure 20”x20” square
- Consist of a top, middle, and back fabric with hand or machine stitching through all layers.
- Have a maximum thickness of no more than 1”.
- Utilize a recognizable amount of the fabrics provided to you. Additional Fabrics are allowed.
- Feature label on the back of quilt that includes quilter’s name and quilt title.
- Avoid profanity or political statements.
Judging Criteria:
- Design
- Composition
- Use of color
- Overall workmanship
- Interpretation of theme
- Originality

- Quilt block kits will be mailed to the Billing Address. For alternate shipping addresses, please call Guest Service for assistance at 801.768.2300.
- All participants are required to pay the $60.00 fee to cover the fabric kit and return postage. Fee covers return shipping but not additional insurance or confirmation/tracking services. If these services are requested, they will incur an extra charge to cover their cost.
- I will attach a label to back of quilt that includes name listed with purchase as well as the title of the quilt.
- All sales are final and non-refundable or exchangeable.
