Students will learn how to create beautiful quilts using my signature trade-marked technique known as Effervescent Applique. You will be using this technique to complete my Blowing In the Wind quilt. This quilt will also introduce or deepen the students' knowledge of Color Theory. This quilt also explores applique techniques to determine which one a student may wish to use in future projects and when certain techniques are most appropriately used.
Class Registration: $69
Supplies Needed for Class:
- Sewing machine
- ¼ inch foot for machine
- Open-toe applique/zig zag foot for sewing machine
- Pattern – “Blowing in the Wind”
- Pellon SF 101 [Fusible Woven Interfacing] 7/8 yds (DO NOT SUBSTITUTE)
- Rotary rulers – recommended: 10 ½” square, 20 ½” square, & straight ruler (18 ½” x 4 ½” or larger)
- Applipop’s Circle Applique Tool Pro Set or Plus Set [recommended for needle-turn applique], or Accuquilt die cutter with GO! Circle-1/2", 3/4", 1", 1 1/4" Die # 55484, and GO! Circle-1 1/2", 1 3/4", 2 1/4", 2 1/2" Die # 55155 [recommended for raw-edge fusible applique], or Plastic Architect's Circle Template, or Freezer Paper Circle Templates, or Karen Kay Buckley Perfect Circles
- Best Press, Magic Premium Spray, or LIquid Starch and a brush
- Small Hot Iron - [Oliso Mini recommended]
- Thermal Thimbles
- Pressing Surface (Wool Mat Recommended)
- Wooden Dressmaker’s Clapper
- Roxanne’s Glue Baste
- Fusible webbing/film for raw-edge applique [HotFix Fusible recommended]
- Applique Pressing Sheet, Silk Pressing Cloth, or Parchment paper
- Regular Cotton Thread for piecing [Aurifil 50 weight Dove Gray recommended]
- 80 – 120 weight thread [Neutral gray or tan] for machine applique
- 28-40 weight thread [Black]for dandelion stems.
- Sewing Machine needles in these sizes [microtex/sharp size 60/8 or 70/10, microtex/sharp size 80/12 & 90/14 (at least 2 of each) & Top Stitch size 90/14 &100/16]
- Small and Medium Sharp Scissors [Karen Kay Buckley Perfect Scissors in Turquoise and Lime recommended]
- Small Applique Scissors [Karen Kay Buckley Curved Applique Scissors Red handle recommended]
- Basic Sewing Supplies (straight pins and pin cushion, scissors, seam ripper, fabric marking pen or pencil, small cutting mat (no larger than 12x18), and a rotary cutter)
Fabric:
- Backgroud – 1 ¼ yd
- Flower center – at least 7” square
- Flower corona – 5/8 yd
- Flower tip circles – 1/3 yd total
- Binding – 1/3 yd
- Backing – 44” x 48”
